Ultimate BC Road Trip 2

Well, that last ride was something special, was it not?  I doubt we’ll be able to equal that light for pics today, but I bet that we’ll have just as much fun riding.

Maybe we’ll just spend the whole day turning left, like Darren there or Kelli in the next one.

I think you already met Martin (above), and below is our new friend Harlan Price.  He’s enjoying the use of all of his fingers here, because within 24 hours of this picture he’ll be nursing the loss of a couple of fingernails and some stiches in the nailbeds.  Not a riding incident though.  Silly bugger caught his digits in the bike rack!

Oh, and can’t forget our contest winner, Leanne.  I gather from here expression that she’s having a good time of it.

There’s a couple of things that make the Okanagan special in BC mountain biking.  One is going for dips in the lake after or between laps (naked toddlers are optional, but highly recommended).

.

T’other is visiting wineries for samples of the local grape alongside gourmet eats.

Thanks to Hillside for the great repast, and best of luck to the traveling circus on their next stops in Rossland, Nelson, Revy, Sicamous, and Whistler.

A Rare Sunny One

Apex is usually known for lots of sun, and less snow.  Well, this year it’s been anything but true.

Today is one oddball day this season.  Blue skies.  Fresh snow is sort of normal these days, but clear skies are definitely not.

I have no idea what this is about.  all I can tell you is that I saw her, and I had to have her…picture.  It wasn’t until I downloaded the pics that I even noticed the funny hat.

After noon I went for a little tour out back.

Canadian was doing some high altitude flight school stuff, but that wasn’t what I was out looking for.

There was a solid class 3 slide a couple of days ago, so I wanted to go check it.  I’m standing above a 2 meter crown, and it ran across for about 600m, ripping right to ground.  I guess that was the early December dump waking up again.  Things to ponder…

Oh well, let’s just have a sausage party instead.

Center of Gravity – Day 1

Ever wonder what goes on inside Dangerous Dan’s head? Apparently a bunch of earwax….

So this is the Center of Gravity, which is a new mid-summer beach festival in Kelowna. Take a bunch of beach volleyball players and mountain bikers and toss them on the beach. Good idea.

It’s a small event at this point. Just a handful of locals like Casey Groves, Garet Buehler, Sterling Grassick, Romo, Doerfling, Schnepf, and Super T.

That seems to be enough to put on a show though.

The first day required some tuning on the jumps.

The boys didn’t seem to have too many problems. A handful of unknown locals really spiced up the show.

Here’s the roll in ramp from a fun angle.

Our man Rob was running the elevator. Watching a few of the guys ride UP the rollin was more fun though.

Of course, there was also some beach volleyball if you wanted something different.

I don’t know what it is, but I spent a lot of time watching volleyball…

Or you could try to watch it all at once.

How do you like my new fisheye lens? Actually, Romo kept over-rotating his three’s, and went through a bunch of wheels. Too much ‘zest’ can ruin the sauce….

DJ’s, flow show, beer garden, volleyball. Nice one with two guys airborne on the same hit.

Super T wants you to join him and the other zombies in their brain eating activities.

Cheeker and Romo.

Random guy (Mr. White) that stole my camera.

Yeaaahhhhhh Booooooooyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Oh, and I got to be a judge for the best trick comp. Here’s a look at one of my fellow judges score sheet (one Shane Jensen, former child star).

I got the crap end of the deal apparently. Check out what these guys got to judge.

Oh yeah…

Some kind of show, isn’t it?

It came down to these two.

I was kind hypnotized by the colour blue at this point.

But the judges saw it differently. I’m satisified with that decision….
