Mountain Biking with the Bush Pilot

For our last day we all came out of the gate pretty flat. I hit the Peeler from Cove Bikes for a few runs. Unfortunately I ran the derailleuyr into the spokes and Mr Happy into the rear tire. Ouch. Everyone else seemed to have at least one mechanical or hard crash. Too much fun isn’t always healthy.

Hit the road, had a great meal in Merritt at a pub, and rolled into Vancouver around midnight.

Go to Sun Peaks. You won’t be disappointed.

Mountain Biking Kamloops

For our second day In the ‘Loops we hit Harper Mtn. Broken Head has built up a whole slew of new stuff on Harper. Most of it is moderate height skinnies with six foot airs, and all the older three and four footers have been buffed out. The newest stuff is huge. One booter throw you out twenty feet with at least ten feet of step down. The potential for air is limitless as the mountain drops away in a loonnnnggg tranny. Then there is a double corkscrew ramp, another big step down, and a fifteen foot gap.

For the afternoon we hit up the line off of the front of Lolo. A cold front came in just as we dropped in, making the powerlines overhead hum in the wind. The trail also goes through a huge field of long grass, and with the winds it was blowing all over.

Wild.

Anyway, lots of sick bridges and drops. I finally stepped up and did a bit bigger drop with about an eight footer near the end. Sweet, sweet lines.

Finished the day with a huge chinese feast at the Oriental Gardens in downtown Kamloops, and then back to the Peaks for a hot tub and bed.

OK, screw the photos. I have to get a digi camera or I just won’t bother.

So I just got back from the nsmb.com weekend at SunPeaks. It was EPIC. I picked up (Pete) Roggeman and his roomie Morgan on Friday night at about 8 o’clock, because I hate driving in long weekend traffic. It was a good call because we got to the ‘Loops in only three and a half hours. Tunes were bumpin and Barb and the boys were pounding the beers right up to the Peaks, which we got to at about one in the morning. There we had not one but TWO full condos, complete with hot tubs and king sized beds, courtesy of Sun Peaks for our visitation and recreation. Colin was already there. I think I showed amazing restraint in waiting at least four minutes before I had all my gear off and was floating naked in warm water with a cold beer.

The next morning was a little hazy. We dialed the bikes, got some food, picked up tickets, and hit the lift. Cam and his crew were already out, shooting pics for the website. We all hooked up for some gang riding extraordinaire. The Peaks hasn’t changed much for this year, but then again it doesn’t need much. Honeydrop is still awesome, and Sugar always makes ya sweat. We cracked off a half dozen runs and went for some beer and nachos at Masa’s at around 5. If you are thinking that isn’t much, that you can do 20 or more at Whistler and 6 runs is just a warmup, then you haven’t been to the Peaks yet.

After our snack, we charged the Whitecroft Trail down the valley for dessert. Unfortunately it had many of its stunts torn down this year, but the trail itself is still plenty of fun for a little diversion. We still had a few thrills on a nice little booter and Morgan had crash of the day on the steep section near the bottom.

For the evening festivities we broke out the Hemingway for a few martinis before hitting the bar.

Ahhh, mountain bike park night life. 30 guys and three girls. And Casey had the audacity to take TWO girls with him when we left. The remaining female had this fabulous ‘come hither’ look that she was unafraid of using. A show of hands on the way back to the condo showed that we all had been tagged by ‘the look.’ Too bad for the guy who had been ‘working that shit since December.’ None of us even knew her name and we had a better chance than he had. Sucka.

More soon. I gotta get some water in me.
