Did I mention I thought opening day on the quad was going to be a bit wild?  Well, it got a bit wild.  Although the official report only said 11 fresh, there was a lot closer to a foot on top of bottomless.

Then it cleared up.

I got up early and pinned the drive to the hill.  Had to stop for the sunrise for a sec though.

Still, got there in time for 1st chair.  Not that there’s a lot of competition for it at Apex.  Here we are around 15 minutes early, and there’s about 15 people in line.

And then it was game on.  Thigh to waist deep all over the hill.

Not bad, and I didn’t stop to take pics. Those last few were from a single ride up around mid-morning when they opened the front side up.  It was too good to stop, and too cold to have the gloves off for long (-14C at the top).

The marketing department went out and got a couple of shots though.

Best opening in years. And here I thought it was going to be a late start.

Got out for another quick  one, and some random old guy from North Van showed up.

Not a bad day for a ski, but it wasn’t as nice as the next time out.  The T-bar was open, but I didn’t bother and instead went for another hike up to the top.  Ran into Steve and Lyle from patrol out doing tower pads.   Steve shows us how the smart way to do a double pole plant.

I was off to check the Wild Side, and it looked like it might be OK.

Yup, it’s pretty nice.

Actually, it got a bit thin down lower, so I did a quick deke out on the bike trail.  Looks like the quad opening on the weekend is gonna be pretty wild.
