Make It Reign – 4

Giant 650b launch, version 2.0.  Now with more gang signs and vacant stares…

Round two sees some more journalists from around the globe.  This time it’s mainly the US, UK, and Australia with a token Canadian thrown in the mix.  Looks like we have a slightly higher average ability level, too, so Seb put together a bit more challenging itinerary for us today.

AJ and Silas drop in on Econoline Dave.

Danny Milner and Brandon from VitalMTB shred a corner a bit further on.

Also out from the UK, it’s the one and only Doddy.  We got on quite well, which is not surprising considering our mutual appreciation of all things involving bikes and beer.

I’ve got lots more of this angle, but let’s keep it to the best ones.  Like this shot of Adam Craig.  You can always tell the pros.

Some guys always have to be a bit different, right Brice?  There’s always one.

Damien (I think it’s Damien…), Pete from NSMB, and Clayton from MBA found some steeper stuff in the sun.

We finished with some hot laps on the Glory over on Jim-Jam, and Adam got a little zesty on Voltron.  That’s a pretty solid creek gap over on that side.   Apparently it’s ‘easy’…

Yep…I’m gettin behind on the triplog.  Well, one more heli drop to cover with this gang and it’ll be time for some North Shore and the Sunshine Coast.

Retro Heli

Looks like I have a day off. What should I do?  I know!  I’ll go heli Disneyland with some guys, like Connor!

And Wade!

Yeah, we crammed everyone and bikes into one load.  It was sort of cramped, but we got there.  Haven’t been up here since 2008, and honestly I didn’t think I’d ever be coming back.  Since I was here last the area has been logged and burned, and it’s just not like it was.

I’ll tell you this much…it’s still super gnarly.  After 18 years and roughly 60 laps in here, it’s just as terrifying as ever.  Looks like the Britannia Trials guys have been doing lots of hours keeping it going.  If you’re riding out that way, you might want to consider throwing them a bone.  They’re kind of grumpy about bikes out there, but they like beer and gas money just as much as anyone.  Can’t spend all your cash on helicopters…

Here’s Max figuring out how to ride on snow with a huge pack.

“What do you mean?  You’re on the other side!”

Connor still hasn’t figured out the big pack riding on dirt (and he got a pretty good raspberry on the knee from this one…).

Anyone need to check their white balance?

Connor finds some flow down on the Lion’s Back.   Although lots of the area has been logged, this zone is still OK…for now.

In between the arduous ups and the insane downs, there’s vistas like this to blow your mind.

Here’s one of those insane downs now.

Hard to believe that after all this time, this sucker is still the king.  We actually filmed this particular little adventure for a little Crankworx project.  I hope it doesn’t look too lame.  After all, this kind of riding just isn’t that popular anymore.  Sure is fun, though.

Make It Reign – 3

Everyone wants a wildlife encounter.  Well, no bears today, but we did find this Western Garter.

I think most of the crew was more interested in the helicopter over there, though.

It was a fine day to fly.  Much clearer than our inspection lap on Saturday.

Top of the world with Giant Bikes.

Speaking of which, there’s the bikes.  Make it Reign! No wait…better put them down nicely.  It’s a long way to the bottom from here.

Adam and boys letting it rip in the alpine.   It’s good ground up here.   Usually you can’t go this quick in the alpine, but Barber is much more forgiving than some other heli zones we use.

Yeeeha!

Here’s a few postcard shots for you.

Halfway down and we took a little lunch break at Tenquille Lake.  I first rode here in 1989.   Not much has changed.  There’s been a forest fire, the cabin has been rebuilt, but overall it’s much of a sameness.

After some grub and a little swim it was time to hit some more descent.

It’s long, fast, sketchy, and once we finished working some shots with Sterl, we shredded it right to the bottom.  Just had to stop once to check out this grouse.

Another great day.  I think the journos had some fun, we’ll have to see what they say in the upcoming article.  Awwww….who are we kidding.  Today was AWESOME!  More heli fun coming up.
