May Long – Day 2

Do you think we’ll need a chainsaw?  Nahhh, leave it at the bottom…

Oops.

Well, it’s only an extra 40 minutes of driving to go get it.  What have we learned, Dorothy?

John gets excited when he sees big wood.  There were some random tourists watching this scenario unfold, too.  Good times.

Oh right.  The May Long Weekend.  Fresh snow, should have brought the boards.

I P’d a frog…

I didn’t run the first lap down the Cawston side.  It was Barb’s turn, so I drove.  I got to ride lap 2 on TKO.  Unfortunately, winter was hard this year (contrary to what you hear on the news).  Lots of trees down, and lots of snow.  We had to hike down a considerable distance.

At least the lower part was in prime shape.

This zone is super sketchy when it’s dry, so a bit of moisture made it ultra tacky.

As usual, I get the best shots of French Jonny.

We ran into some of the Penticton locals on the 1st lap, and Kurt jumped in for lap 2 with us, showing us how to do it on light gear.  Then again, I was on my Altitude so I guess that made for two of us idjits running big mountains on little bikes.

Smile!

Even with lots of snow and downed trees, that ride is still one of the best. And spring storms make for epic light.

Like this…

May Long – Day 1

A smaller turnout this year.  I think with the Coast having lots of riding all winter, and spring being a bit colder, plus our renos being sort of slow, well…lets just keep it small this year.  We’ve got some locals to play with anyway.

Like John here.  Mr. Prepared.  I like your style.

Actually, Derek came up from Vangroovy (the guy on the right, obviously not from around here…).  We rode up the Mice and met some freeriders at the top again.   2 hour climb for us, comedy of errors and wrong turns for them.

Yeah, not the sunniest of long weekends this year.  Well, we’ve had great weather in May the past 5 years, so it’s about time we got a bit of cooler weather.  Once again, a bit of snow at the top.

A wrong turn at one point led to this great bit of trail. I love riding here.  It’s always a new adventure.

Oh, and Rich came out too.  Almost forgot.  If you’re looking to ride this trail, take note of this next pic, as it’s where the secret turn is.  Now I’ve given it away, I guess it’s not secret.  Riiiiiiiiiiiggghhhhhhhhhhhht.  Oh wait…  Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeefffffffffft.

Last turn, and the new gully ride section.  This is the berm to hip entry for it.  Sort of sneaks up on you fast, eh Derek?

Brant and Jason have a better shot at it.

Girl’s Got Skills Almost Full

The Girls Got Skills Clinic is nearly full, but there’s still a couple of spots open. This clinic was very successful last year, and was very well recieved by all the participants.

It’s happening on the weekend of June 5th and 6th, so if you or any other ladies you might now are interested in improving your technical bike handling skills, sign up now before it’s too late.
