Shock Monkey SSC – Day 2

Sure, it looks there’s some sun out there, but it’s just a tease.

Day 2 and already we’re getting close to setting a new record for wet on this tour.   It rained all night, and we had a late start to avoid the worst of it this morning.

I’m taking advantage of the minimal sun to lie down in the ferns and get some up skirt shots here.  The crew thought I’d crashed and fallen off.  Well, except for Jeff, who didn’t care one way or the the other and just rolled on by.

The girls are starting to impress.  They would be the best non-Canadian ladies we’ve had out, and are consistently kicking the guys asses around the trails.

For the afternoon laps, we went for an up and over to Gibsons via Red and the now famous Pressure Drop (featured in Follow Me).

While not exactly raining right now, it was pretty darn dark and dank in the woods.

After our ride, we went over to Stubz’ place to check out the gingers back yard.

Andrew has been busy of late.  Not only is he hard at work carving masks, he’s also teaching himself the art of bentwood box making.  I rrrrrrrrreallllly want one of these.  Kinda pricey though. If you’ve got a spare $1500 kicking around, let me know and I’ll put you in touch.  At least he’s more affordable than if he was Native.

Stubz also put on a show for the kids.  This is the big gap line from Follow Me.

And this would be the Kranked section from a couple of years ago.

Gen was so excited, she got a Boner in the Mist.

Shock Monkey SSC – Day 1

Also known ironically as the “Truth in Advertising” tour.  Because the Sunshine Coast is not living up to it’s name these days.

That would be Jay, our very own “Shock” Monkey.  And that’s about as close as I can get to any of his nicknames on this site.  The other names they have for each other would get me completely lynched, or maybe locked up, like Redneck Jeff here.

Jay is originally from the UK, but has since emigrated to Australia and married a local there.  They seem to have figured out what the SSC locals get up to when it’s raining.  No wonder there’s so many little kids roaming around.

This one’s for Morland and the boys.

Besides Jay and Gen, Simon and Karen were also along for the trip.  3 Aussies and and a Brit.  I think we may be drinking some beer this week.

Overall, they seem like good riders, although their skinny riding needs a bit of work.

OK Mr Sun, stop teasing us.  Either come out and play or bugger off.

Girls Got Skills – Day 2

Day 2 of the clinic, and things are getting fabulous.

Yes, it’s silly outfit and hula hoop day.  I think Walmart must have been busy last night.

No, these are just my reading glasses.

OK, on to some more training.  Worked on berms and cornering today.  Having this rad berm all freshly built for us made it easy to progress.  From tentative first turns…

..to all out radness in just a few minutes.

Having Johanna set demos like this may also have something to do with it.

We went up to Powers Creek for the afternoon to get some more advanced riding in, and also to show off some hot fashions on the runway.

Big smiles, that’s a sign of a successful session.

Just try it, if you fall off you’ll be landing on people.  They’re squishy.

A lot of learning went down on this run.  Powers can be very intimidating to new riders, and there was no shortage of fear at the top of the trail, but by half way the girls were killing it at every turn.

Although there’s no guarantee that you’re not going to eat it on a flat section and take a mud bath.  You know that you can pay top dollar for this sort of thing at a spa, and we just include it in the price of the weekend.

Another excellent weekend clinic.  Thanks to Barb, Johanna, and Candace for the excellent coaching, and all the women who came out to ride.  We will be running this camp annually, so see you next year!  Or if you have a few girls who are looking for some instruction, just drop us a line and we can set something up.
