Birthday Epics – 1

Whoa…I’m gettin’ old.   I’ll be 40 in a couple of days.  So I guess I’d better get goin’ on some of these epic rides out here.   I’ve done this one before, with Wade on his stag.  He shoulda been on this one, but stupid Interbike and Rampage threw a wrench into that plan.

Instead Kurt came along, and I we were meeting some other folks from the city.  Well, we supposedly were meeting them.  Kurt and I got into the beers at the campsite and missed the rest of them this morning. It’s a long ride, I figured we’d run into them later.

There’s Kurt, with the Cascade Range behind him.  I think I might see our missing crew on the ridge in the background of the next one.

Pretty sick weather for October.  I was in a sleeveless all day.

Not much to say here.  It’s basically postcard stuff.

Ahhh…there’s our missing crew.

Probably because they’re 1) lawyers and 2) partially German.   They’re so prompt. Can’t handle waiting for us slacker Canucks.  But they went for a short hike to check out a viewpoint so we got ahead.  I kind of figured it out when I stopped seeing tracks on the trail.

That’s right.  A primo trail like this and there’s no tracks on it.

It winds along like this at between 6 000’ and 7 000’ for 20km, too.

Shootin’ from the hip.

Yes, this is a poser shot.  Cool though.

Our German lawyer testing out a new Fox fork.  This was one of about 3 puddles we saw all day.

At the top of the descent.

Starting down the descent.  18km of primo singletrack.

Moon shot.

Kurt in the sub-alpine.

Final shot before we hit the trees.

I just didn’t bother with any more pics after this.  Too busy railing retarded high speed sidehill.  We turned left for so long, that the one time the trail switchbacked back to the right we all nearly crashed from it feeling so different.

Epic day for sure, and great start to the birthday.  Got another one up the sleeve for a few days from now.
