Seycove Auction :: Freeride 101

So, good alumnus that I am, I donated a day of coached riding to my old school, Seycove. They have an auction every year, and I gave away a couple of four person instructional sessions.

What a guy.

Today’s contetants:

Kevin Karr (no relation to Will, just a coincidence), his boy Michael, and his buddy Cam.

Now, I didn’t get too many pics. We just didn’t get that much riding in. It was really dark so I only took a few on CBC.

Here’s Kevin learning how to huck.

I think Cam already knew.

Mike was just out for the ride.

So remember Will Karr from yesterday and the day before?

Well, same last name, same log….

Better result though.

He got 9 stitches, and a rain cheque for the ride.

…and he bought the rental bike off the Cove.

Droughts and Forest Fires

Oh wait, that was last year.

Now it looks a little more like this.

On the ride today was Bill from San Fran up for his first North Shore experience. We also ran into the crew from the Bike Doctor in Missoula, who I’ve spoken with onthe phone numerous times but never actually met. I love serendipity.

This is what the Shore is supposed to look like.

All creepy and dark, with blurrry pics because its too dismal to focus.

I didn’t get the names of everyone, but this is a nice shot of the Gerbil Cage Extension.

Here’s Bill sliding around one of the huge trees on CBC.

Bill again.

Aww hell, they’re all Bill now. Top of Pangor.

Look, he’s riding logs!

..oh wait, no he’s not.

A last shot of the Pangor Swamp…

…and I’m spent.

Hello Newfies, Goodbye Florida

All in one day. Put Scott on the plane and blasted up to Whistler to grab some Newfies for a rematch on last year.

Just pass me that bike, will ya? Guess how many times you’re going to hear that this week.

Ah……Yee-aaah.

So we rolled into the ‘Loops around 1 PM-ish. Just in time to meet up with Dub, Doyler, Brandon, Hunter, and Dusty. On the program today…Greenstone. 18Km long and 5000’ of vert.

I heard that Dusty had balls of steel, but I didn’t think this was what they meant.

Some skinny stuff on Greenstone.

Eric, in flying squirrel mode.

Doyler hits a huge, retarded stepdown to Dansition.

He trashed his wheel on the drop. Dusty looked like he was going to puke. Apparently huge flat hucks don’t sit well with his definition of mountain biking.

Dub making Hunter Child into Hunter Man.

Pedaling gets a bit harder in 42 degree heat. Thats about 110 for you Yankees reading this.

Of course, forest fires burn a little easier in that kind of weather too.

Thanks to the Forest Service for getting that one under control in very short order.
