Piraten

Mr & Mrs marmalade have a day off, so they’re playing with some bugs.

My past has come back to haunt me.  The Suisse Piraten have arrived.

This is David, who came out a few years back with a tour from a shady German outfit.  He won the trip by doing some outrageously stupid things on a bike, like:

He’s ridden here before, but this time he brought a few friends.

They’re all as crazy as he is.

Yeah, fun times with the Swiss.  Wish I had a bit more time to abuse them, but maybe next trip.  They should have seen Postill and Gillard, but were on their way to Whistler and didn’t realize what we had for them.

Mr & Mrs. Marmalade – 4

The sun is being a bit shy, so our UK friends are being spared the full on heat of summer yet again today.  Time to scare them a bit and head to Powers.  Al, keeping his nose clear of the landing again.

Here’s the new entrance to the Jedi Phucker.  You should be warned that the tranny at the end is very short, and you need to go pretty slow to avoid nose diving into the turf at the end.

This works…

Yvonne is getting really comfortable with the small drops now.  Maybe it’s time to try a few small gaps.

Here’s another of the many, many stunts that Dirty Dave is building these days.

A couple of low angle perspectives of the rock face on Builders.  Makes it look pretty gnar, eh?

One of the notorious A-frames on Builders.

Oh look, Yvonne’s first gap.  She even admitted to me that it was sort of anti-climactic.  Gaps are easy.

Immediately followed by a step-down gap too.  Nice flow.

Another lap, and back to the old school.

Yvonne was feeling good after that first run, and chased her tail all the way down the hill.

Al, nose down for a change.

Oh..that’s better.

Time for everyone’s favourite, the big wood berms on Powers.  Hard not to like these.

Of course, it’s also good to hit Crazy Train…

…repeatedly.

Where’s My Cookies?

I never realized it until they arrived, but this group from the North Shore included NSMBA baking legend Karen Gillich, and she DIDN’T BRING COOKIES!  So very disappointed.  Oh well, I’ll still show them some nice trails.

I think Nicole surprised herself here.  It’s not like you find drops like this on the Shore.  While locals around here don’t put too much emphasis on the difficulty of the stuff up at Powers, when you’re used to clinging to slippery wet roots and moss on the coast the wide open Interior style is a bit daunting.

Then, when you get to the tighter, more technical parts that freak out the locals, the Shore types slay it on sight.

Diff’rent Strokes, eh?

At any rate, they were suitably impressed and sent the majority of the stunts.

The older classic line was more their speed.

Coming from the Shore, it’s hard not to like this move.

Or this one.  Still, it took a couple of tries to get this one nailed.

Ahhh, everyone’s favourite, the wooden berms.

We also did another speed run on some old school stuff, but no pics.  Too busy ripping it.  A fun, full day of dirt and dust.  Lots of riding ahead, the season is only half done at this point.
