Chocolate Feet – Day 9

Back to it. This would be our last chance at Kobau this tour, and our first crack at it all year.

Weather looks OK…

Unfortunately, those blue skies didn’t hold, so no big blue sky vistas for you this time around. However, we got ya the goods in the woods. Here’s Rob while he still had working forks…

Kev.

This area has some serious log rides. The biggest ones I know of in the whole Valley too.

Hey. It’s “I can’t ride this sort of thing” Matt. Way to prove yourself wrong….again.

Dropping!

Well, grey skies and all it’s still fairly spectacular out there.

Count the riders.

Doo do doo de doo de doo do dooo do…..(think circus music).

That’s better.

OK, on to round two. The OTHER side of the mountain, also known as TKO. Hoe to even bigger log rides.

You’re looking at the first half of this particular one, and it’s also a good 8′ off the ground.

Scenic goodness.

Incoming!

He’s still smiling. That is one seriously steep pitch, and it’s complicated by a sheer drop of 30′ off the edge of the trail that you can’t see. Good times….

OK, now a series of nice tree shots. This trail is really long and its absolutely stunning the whole way down. Take this as a random sample of the views.

Yeah one footer.

You know, it’s harder to walk it than ride it. Never mind…..

Doh!

did I mention this one ends up at a winery? Here are our dirty boys being served some of Tinhorn Creek’s finest.

Seems our Brits are pretty good at holding
thier beer, but maybe a bit less experienced with the wine.

Sierra/North Random Hookup

I got a last minute call from my broker the other day. Seems like he was in town with some other riders I’ve met over the years. These guys are powerhouse Shore riders, and are responsible for a lot of that great trail work you’ve wondered about for years.

They also happen to build ski resorts like Cypress and Revelstoke when they’re not riding. Overall, some good folks to know.

Oh, and they know the trails up here almost as well as I do, so once again I get to put the guide’s pack away and just ride. Looks like we’ve got a good venue for today….

A 2 lap day off of Kobau is an undertaking. This stuff rarely gets ridden, but when it does, it’s often this guy…

They sure aren’t shy, this bunch.

We shredded this one in short order. Apart from some minor mechanical issues, it was a smooth and fast run.

RUN!!!! It’s a giant mug!!!!

That damn thing just won’t leave us alone.

Our only sunny break in the first lap. I guess summer IS over….

If you need any hot stock tips, call Dave. He knows which way the winds blowing…..

After raiding the orchard at the bottom (which is the very one where Ambrosia apples first came from, and still the best source for them), we headed up for round 2, which was off the other side of the mountain. I rode about 3/4’s of this trail the year it was first built, but we missed a large portion of it due to it being os little traveled. It’s been so long since then that it was pretty much like riding a new one all over again.

Traditional lost in clearcut pose….

We didn’t remain lost for very long, and nailed the line soon enough. You know it’s pretty rad when you see Shore boys walking on the logs….

Of course the immigrant (Peter emigrated years ago) showed up the natives…

Inukshuk need goat milk latte with madagascar cinnamon. Now! Inukshuk has spoken….

Round 2 is much longer than round 1. Here’s the halfway point, where it gets a bit tougher….

The crew…

A few hits and ramps are inthe lower half, and a bit of a sketchy road gap. Mainly, it’s just the steep factor that makes this trail hard.

Good thing it ends at Tinhorn Creek Winery. Gotta keep up appearances…..
