Cove Trail Day :: Sunday, June 6th

Before I talk about last weeks trailday (besides, it’s just a repost from the Cove Bikes site), you might want to check out the trashing I got over at FARKIN, an Aussie bike forum. The thread can be found HERE. It’s in response to another thread over at NSMB.com, which can be read HERE.

Yes sir, I am a tool. Ok, on to last week’s trail day.

It was a roaring success. Nearly 60 people were in attendance for the work party on CBC sponsored by Cove Bikes and organized by Cove team rider Barb Haley.

Please, remember to support your local trail association. The NSMBA needs you. Traildays are on going all summer, and your contribution is necessary to keep the trails open.

Many new faces were in attendance. Good to see the future of the sport represented.

The top several hundred meters were re-worked to help alleviate drainage and erosion problems. Several features were also enhanced to give riders a little extra lift when riding CBC.

…and here’s a little clip of the finished trail.

June 3rd and 4th — The Shore

Enter James from Phoenix and Bruce from Minneapolis. James is a commercial Pilot and Bruce is in television advertising. I thought I would try doubling up a couple of riders who didn’t know each other. YOu know, just to see what happens.

Ooops.

Poor Bruce.

Actually, it was just dumb luck. Bruce took about ten falls before he ‘got it’ and unfortunately one of them caused a pulled rhomboid muscle (uncomfortable but not terribly serious). James pretty much wired it right off the bat. Except for the real skinny stuff.

This is James on CBC.

Here’s Bruce in what was supposed to be a shot of him getting progressively muddier. Pretty good start I’d have to say.

…and Bruce again, proving that he can ride the Shore just fine.

Really too bad that he got such a dumb injury. We’ve all been there. I hope he follows through on his threat to come back here with his wife. He really did miss out on a great day of riding.

So Barb and James continued on with the rest of the run down Seymour while Bruce and I hightailed it outta there.

After we all regrouped, I sent Bruce to a Chiro/massage therapist buddy and James and I went for sushi while we plotted our next move.

That turned out to be sailing.

I don’t know why I like this pic so much. I just do.

Captain Killer and his frosty refreshments.

We hit up another lap for the evening. Local pace applied, so no pics. It was a fast one, but we were still riding until nearly 10 pm. Good day.

The next day James wanted to see Fromme.

Here’s what that looks like.

I really like these next ones though.

He went back and got it.

Unfortunately the front brake line blew up around then. Strangely, James started to ride better. Hard to hesitate when you can’t stop I guess. We finished his trip with a top to bottom on Seymour, and he stomped it.

He’s currently on a cruise ship somewhere up the inside passage to Alaska with his charming wife.

It’s a tough life, innit?

May 29th. :::: Virginia Dave

Yep. Dave Cimonelli. All the way from Virginia. He sure brought the rain with him though. Before we get to Dave, I have the video from the long weekend finished.

It’s 15 megs, so be ready for some download time. You can see it HERE.

OK, on to the rain–I mean ride.

This isn’t Dave. This is actually the R&D department at Trek bikes. Trying for a little North Shore reputability I imagine. Well, if they are riding CBC in the wet then I would think that their bikes will be undergoing some changes soon….

OK, THIS is Dave:

…and again:

I had hoped for some better carnage shots, but those East Coast guys seem to just eat it up on the Shore. Maybe that guy from Phoenix will entertain us in a couple of days….
