Red Mountain Pow

A bit of a theme here. Always with the freshies. Didn’t even bother with the camera yesterday. No time. Red has had about 20 cms the last couple of days. Yesterday there was an official overnight of 8 cms, but it was closer to 15 by the time the chair opened at 9am. After 4 or five runs, the upper chair clsed due to high winds and Barb and I got ‘stuck’ on the Paradise chair. Seems that most of the few skiers out on the hill missed the last ride to the top, and it just snowed harder. You could simply ski the same line every run and it had filled in, then straight onto the chair. The last run was epic. We had untracked Powder Fields (untracked fields of joy!)…all 2120 vertical feet of gladed natural terrain. Takes me back to the glory days of the mid 90’s

Easily the best day of the week.

Until today, also known as Phat Tuesday.

Too bad they said 30cms on the radio. Not too many places of business open today I’ll bet.

..and another shot of Barb rippin the pow.

It warmed up a bit so the bombs were flying, and it was a bit heavy for sure, but just as the hardcores calledit a day, it cooled off and the north side got way lighter. We pulled a full day today, not stopping until the final bell at 3pm.

Could it get any better than this?

Back again, and it was DEEP!!!

First off, let me say congrats to Team Canada for winning the gold at hte World Junior Hockey Championships. For a team that wasn’t supposed to make the medal round they did pretty good. Bummer that team USA folded so badly. That Czech game seemed to take a lot out of them. Too bad, I was looking forward to the final with all North America. It would have been a lot closer than the savaging that our boys laid out to the Russians. Good players, but lousy team.

For the Dirty South respondent, don’t be so down on yourself. Stand proud. You should never have to feel ashamed of who you are. Unless you hold your sign upside down……

Anyway, on to the ski trip. First up was Silver Star. A friend of ours who works there hooked us up with a great package for a couple of days, and wouldn’t ya know it? It snowed.

Buckets.

The cool thing about these shots is that they were taken after lunch. It was like we had VIP runs or something. Tons of snow, no lines, great terrain.

Seriously check it out. The hot apres ski spot would have to be Long John’s Pub. Mandatory sing-a-longs on powder days. Seriously, check it out.

Merry Christmas

…I’m going skiing.

The skiing was actually pretty good here a couple of weeks ago. Here’s my buddy Derek hiking up Seymour in the fog. Decent for the coast, anyway. We got four good pow runs in an afternoon.

Had to push another lap the next week at night. Backcountry night skiing is a bit easier when you’ve got all these lights nearby.

See ya at New Year’s, and if the site goes offfline in the next week or so, it’s because you guys are sending my bandwidth way over my limit. Thanks for making feel so wanted…..
