Triplog

Out of date trip info, but here for historical reasons

Goose Crew – 2

OK, yesterday was challenging, but it’s done.  Honestly, it was still super fun.  There’s lots of great riding to be had in the wet up here, but with so many fresh trails that much moisture just makes it extra challenging.  We rode 11k’ yesterday, and it felt like twice that.

Today looked like we were on a different planet.

As it was still pretty damp from all the rain, we went over to Idaho Peak to hit the Wakefield. It faces south, is a hundred years old and very well established, and drains much better anyway.

Definitely the right call to start our day, and it was even warm enough on the beach at the bottom that we could pretend it was still summer of a sort, too.

Many more runs ensued, but the pump track apres was still the best.

Crab cakes tonight, tomorrow we heli!

Goose Crew – 1

Yes, it’s time for the final Retallack trip of the year.  Goose has brought a new gang out, along with the old tickle trunk and whole bunch of other random mayhem.

I have no pics of the first day, mainly because the weather was obscenely dirty and also because I forgot to charge the camera.

Here’s a pic from last year which tells part of the story.

Pics of the rest of the story, which may or may not involve me wearing a Tuck Tape mankini and some teabagging, will surface uncomfortably at some unforseeable point in the future.

Scope Mission

This is it then.  The last day of summer/first day of fall.   It’s all over at 7 PM today.

Yeah right.  It’s time to put the throttle down and get things done more like.   Today we’re going to make a scoping mission off of Reco Peak down to Sandon to check out the ground for a potential future trail.

We’re going over there, eh Mike?

Yup, we’re really guiding now.  As there’s no trail, it’s a bit more challenging dropping in.

We had some fun roaming around the ridges in the alpine. This is called “assessing.”

I’ve been hearing about this zone here for a while, and Buehler shot some nice lines here recently.   I think there might be some possibilities here for a few more lines, what do you think?

Mike found a couple here…

There are a million old mining roads to access this zone, and plenty of old cabins and such.  Here’s one of the better known ones near the Mercury Mine.

Looks like there’s a bit of undergrowth to deal with in a few spots, but I’m thinking we’ll be fine putting a new trail in here.

So there you go (it’s the orange line in case you’re confused).  7700′ of descending, and with all our little explorations it worked out to about 24 km.  Not a bad way to spend a Monday.
