UFB Challenge – Day 2

Well, that’s a change from last year.  No late nights, just tired riders.  I think I was last to bed at something like 1am.  Our friends are getting old or something.  Nice.

Good thing we’re always making new friends.  New guys gotta ride in back though.

Yup, it’s a 9 grand day ahead of us.

A lot of Kobau rookies today.  Something like 30+ riders in the possee.

Spectacular day for it of course.

We even had Joe Average with us (see if you can guess which one).

Cliche mirror lens shot.

‘Tash was out for a shred on her Knolly today.  Another new Mom…killin’ it.

Fields of blooming balsamroot, as far as the eye could see.

I’m still checkin’ out the hot chick on the bike.  You can look at the flowers if you get bored of Sarin.

I think Colin may be happy to see her, too.

Nice t-shirt, Brian.

Doh!

Round 2 today will forever be remembered as legendary.  Hard chargin’ crew, perfect conditions, first tracks of the season, and an absolute stunner of a mountain to ride down.  I had cramps in my thighs from downhilling on this one, and I think I saw more than one guy with tears in his eyes at the bottom.

Speaking of the bottom, here we are.

Ryan threw a nice X on this little road gap.

And Marcie was just throwin’ down like it ain’t no thang….as per usual.

Do it….

The only bummer was Sarah’s broken thumb on the first lap

OK, now for some bonus shots courtesy of Seth…

Yet again, a full on epic day.  32 riders, 5 babies, one broken thumb, 9500’ vertical, and a lot of giggles.

UFB Challenge

Yeah…..think you’re tough? Let’s get ready to RUMMMMMMBBLLLLLE!

The annual May long weekend dirtbag invasion is upon us. This year with more babies.  And also a cute fuzzy spider.

I thought I’d start things off with a bit of an XC adventure, just to be different.  Unlike the coast, the XC here is actually pleasant.  Especially with the Balsamroot in full flower.

Dorothy, climbing sans helmet.  You’re going to be in SO much trouble.

“You know, madness is a lot like gravity… sometimes all you need is a little push.”

**Bonus points if you know where the above quote comes from.

The payoff for the little climb comes pretty quick.  Unless you don’t like carving a banked slalom down a a gully with little jumps everywhere.

Dan lays into the natural berms on Smith Creek.

He was nice enough to set a good line for the girls.

Seth, lord of the underworld, kills some time while we wait for the back of the pack.

With something like 25 people in attendance, it was a shuttlefest free-for-all this afternoon up Powers.

Multiple laps went down.  Here’s Colin shreddin’ Crazy Train for the 15th time today.

Welcome to ground zero.

OK, random pics of Powers Creek.  Thanks to Seth for the rad pics.  I want a Nikon….

MTBco Sasquatch Hunt

The club is really trying to step it up this year with events that include everyone.  First up is the Outbound Cycles Sasquatch Hunt, a poker ride on the trails of Powers Creek.

Not only did you have to ride the course and collect cards to make a good hand, but there were bonus prizes for capturing Bigfoot, one of our members dressed up as a sasquatch.

I spent the day shuttling everyone up, to the tune of 11 full loads of riders.

We had over 70 riders sign up, and close to 100 people in total participated in one way or another, raising over $1000 for the MTBco.

Here’s the only pic we got of the Sasquatch.  Pretty big feet, eh?

Rock on, Dawn.

..and Justin entertained us with his impression of Predator (click the pic to see what I mean).
