MTBco Toonie Ride #2

It’s a new tradition we’re starting up around here.  Toonie Rides.  Pink socks  are optional.

Mike has got the ball rolling with this event, although he did forget the table.  You can tell he thrives on organizing this stuff.  If you’ve got some time every other Weds., maybe think about lending him a hand.  Drop me a line if you’re interested.

OK, so here’s the start line.  16 riders showed up for week 2, up from only 8 at the inaugural ride.

And we’re racing!

You can tell that it’s a pretty serious thing.  Evan tried to wheelie up the whole climb.

Sovereign Cycles cooked us up some tasty burgers for the post ride.

Tonight’s fastest man was Aart van Kooy from Peachland.

Also thanks to Tree for supplying first prize.

Nose wheelie on the finish for extra style points.

And a rainbow for the overall leader.

Kate and Hamish – Day 2

Yesterday was a bit more about Kate, so today we’re gonna throw down on some freeride for Hamish.

He seems to be excited by the Powers Creek zone.

Kate is a pretty decent amateur photographer (she’s even managed to sell a few shots), so she’s pretty happy to tag along and take shots.

Which is nice for me, as I don’t get too many pics of myself.  There’s a nice one of my bum, and here’s a great one of Hamish railing the wallride on Powers.

And another sick one of Shenanigans.  He hit this up a couple of times.  With another couple of days, I think I would have taken him over to Postill for a session on the big stuff.  He really likes this kind of thing.

Of course, no Powers Creek sesh is complete without a few runs on Crazy Train.

We also did a fast run on Builders Only.

Hamish got his Builders Only ticket stamped by carrying this load of lumber up to a new stunt for Diddler.

McDougall Rim on a sunny afternoon.  So romantic…

Lets throw rocks.

Unfortunately, McDougall has been pretty much wrecked at this point by quads.  it’s still fun, but it’s disappointing to see it change from singletrack to dirt road in a couple of seasons.  Pretty selfish of the 2 or 3 quadders who have decided to destroy it for everyone else, but that’s how quadders are I guess.  Here’s one of the few sections that hasn’t been totally hacked on yet, but by the time you read this it should be full on double-tracked out.

Kate and Hamish – Day 1

Talk about yer mixed nuts…  Kate is an XC rider from London, and Hamish is another one of those Jedi Council types from Hertfordshire.  This could be challenging keeping them both satisfied.  We’ll see how things go in Naramata first.

So far so good.  Kate keeps the wheels on the ground, but can deal with just about anything and is fit enough to go all day.

Meanwhile, Hamish is not fazed by anything.

For a Herts rider, this is nothing.

Your affable hosts hang out on the beach between runs.

Round two, and it’s a bit more about Kate as we go for a slightly more pedally flavour on High Pony.

No Hamish, you can’t go bowling.

She’s all smiles, it must be OK…

There’s always a couple of hits around to keep Hamish happy.

Hamish and I got a a bonus lap in on the Beer Run, so that he could exercise his demons (not a typo, they needed some fresh air).  I don’t know where Tony finds these guys, but this one can seriously ride.

These are some fairly hefty moves that are kind of sketchy at best, and he nailed them all on sight.

I think tomorrow we’ll hit up Powers Creek and McDougall, and give Hamish a bit more of a workout.
