Dirtbags – Prologue

Your crew is called the “Dirtbags,” eh?  Well, we should get along just fine.  Since this is Dave Silver and a bunch of guys from BC Bike Race, I don’t feel so bad about missing the Retallack Legends Weekend (OK, I totally think it sucks that these are on the same weekend, but I had to make the choice weeks ago). Enough excuses, let us ride!

Some of the crew got here a bit earlier, so I took them for what I thought would be the first of a couple of laps up in the Mice.

Things got a bit hairy right off the bat, with a bunch of very XC and 29’r-y bikes rolling into some seriously steep terrain.

My plans for more runs were soon thwarted by a series of flat tires though.  Damn coastal kids…we set a new record for most flats in one day this season in a single group with 8.

…and we missed Shaun and Linnette’s wedding, although we did hear some of it.

Oh well, we still managed to relax with a beer on the beach afterwards.

Tomorrow, it gets serious.  Better rest up.

Another Thursday

It’s been a while.  I’ve been on the road so much, I haven’t had much of a chance to get to these rides.

Some wildlife on the side of the road:

I think I was better off getting the pic on this side of the road, instead of the rugged couple having sex in an Oldsmobile on the other side.  Ahhhh…it’s still summer.

We did a Peat Bog lap tonight, and it was amazing to me how many of the regular crew had never seen these trails.  They’re pretty old.  Even this semi-hidden line that Ryan Berrecloth built is going on 6 or 7 years now.

Crazy guy brought cedar up from the coast to build these booters.  Good call, they’re super solid.

…and Stocker sends it, after sunset as is tradition with that boy these days.

Retallack – Bonus

Ha ha!  The tables have turned…

Thanks for the lift, Lorraine.  I needed to get a few more laps in, and so did Christine.  Mac was just along for colour.

I now dare you to NOT look at his yellow package (ask Mac about Operation Canary Freedom next time you see him).

So gangsta…

Gotta give the guy credit.  For only his 3rd real ride, he seems to have something of the sport figured out.

In the afternoon I went and hung out with Solos Productions and checked out some action with Buehler and Cheek.  Here’s a sneak peak of Garett’s new line.

You can’t really tell from these shots how gnar the line actually is, but luckily Mitch had the cable cam setup ready to go.

Some more blurry action in the dark, dark woods…

Like I said, it looks alright in the pics, better in real life, but for the full effect it looks siiiiiccccckkkkkk in super slo-mo.

Endin’ a hard day with Paddy K.  Thanks for the beers, eh?
