Return of the Real

The really wet that is. The long absent moisture has returned. I must have a new bike or something.

Anyway, Saturday I went and atoned for my sins by diggin in the rain for a few hours. I drove up into the pea soup fog and parked behind the concrete barrier at the top of CBC, then went and mixed up some sweet mud When I do trail maintenance, I like to listen to a little ACDC, so you can imagine my surprise when I heard a big THUMP over the wailin’ strains of Angus’ blistered fingers.

Some guy managed to park his Pontiac on top of the barrier, breaking off both front wheels in the process and showering my van with debris. His hood was about four feet from the roof of my van, actually. Stupid me, no camera. Oh well, I got lucky. Driver of the car got a ripped up lip ( I’d say around 8-10 stitches ) and a concussion. I felt sorry for his dog, stuck with an idiot like that for an owner……

Sunday I got a ride in with Brentomatic. He’s definitely getting faster. He brought these two guys along….

We all got introduced, but I forget the names in light of the past couple of days. The guy on the Brodie is pretty solid ( he stomped the new jump on CBC in the wet on sight), but the guy on the Kona was killing it all day. These shots are the new hip line below the PileDriver.

If you see this, put your names down in the comments will ya?

Hey, know what you call a guy who’s stuck in Toronto?

Hey there Chris Thomas from Toronto.

How do you think the weather is in Toronto right now? Do you think your usual ride buddies are sweating their bags off in shorts and t-shirts?

More likely they’re hibernating under a pile of electric blankets. A big shout out to Dan at OnTop for hooking up Chris with the Brodie there. No one has their rental fleet up yet, and he came through. It’s actually his brothers bike, but what he doesn’t know…

Seymour again today. Chris is a rookie on the technical trails, although he didn’t show it. He got everything figured out pretty quick. We rode all over the mountain today. The usual Pangor ride, as well as TNT, and the venerable Severed Dick. If you are out on the Shore this week, you should make a rund down the Dick. It’s freakin’ awesome right now.
.

We also got off the beaten pah a bit and ran into Jaques and co. out doing a bit of maintenance. Those are wooden table tops, people. Enough of ’em to get some rhythm going even.

Chris figured out the skinnies by lap two.

Ran into an old friend, Claudia. Her first ride of the year. She still rips it up pretty good.

Hates getting her pic taken though. I had to surprise her to get this one of her riding across a swamp.

Chris getting an even skinnier one down.

And Barb of course. My old Sociology prof would say that this is a denigrating depiciton of childbirth, and demeaning to women.

Sociology is about as serious a science as Psychometrics** (**the measuring of crazy french people).

That looks pretty damn impressive to me.

Finished the day with beer at my buddy Darcy’s place. He scored this old thing a couple of years ago.

He’s leaving the cosmetic stuff till the last, but check out the rebuilt engine.

Thats the original 327 under the hood.

He also re -id the exhaust, getting the old external pipes re-installed.

It’s been too long since I had some pics of classic cars up. This is a good way to get back into it.

1967 Corvette roadster. He’s not giong to sell it, but if you want to go for a ride in it……

More Seymour….

Did someone just say “Oi, Wankers!”?

Ahhhhh. It seems it’s a Norco media day with MBUK. Get outta the shot Harley, ya wanker.

I thought we were supposed to meet up with Brent from Denny’s, but he pulled a no show.

Who’s the wanker now?

Not Hoots Jay, pulling a nose bonk on the Pangor rock.

This is John. He’s a cross country guy from the UK. He’s in a lot of trouble from his girlfriend now that he’s a freerider. It’s OK lady, he’s still clipped in and I don’t see any knee pads.

Hooty pulling the train.

What the hell kind of bike is that? Nolan? Never heard of it. Can’t find a website for it either. If you know one, let me know. It’s a really trick looking rig.

Artsy fartsy shot of Peter Stace-Smith railing the wood berms on Pangor.

A little more in focus. Kyle Guay.

Peter again.

Screwing around on the logs….

Thanks to Norco for shuttling me up the hill all day, and Hooty for being so much fun to ride with, and to those silly tw@ts at MBUK for
being so entertaining.
