July 18th Shop Ride

Hit a bit of a wall this week.  What with lots of riding, the heat, and various jobs/chores/etc., I didn’t ride this weekend.

Did the youth ride on Tuesday, but didn’t take shots.  Hey…we had 12 guys and no flats!

Not so tonight.  Terry had his first before we even unloaded the bikes.

By the time we got to the bottom, it was 3 for Terry, two for Kurt, one for Karl, and Dave and I both finished with flats that we couldn’t be bothered to fix.

Yay Karma…

Carbon Carnage

Another Thursday, another hammerfest in the Mice.  Dave, you’re facing the wrong way…

Oops. Yes, that’s a carbon rim.  Karl’s carbon rim to be exact.  May it rest in pieces.

So, there may or may not have been some shenanigans that led to this.  I was in front, and there’s a particular corner on Eagle that I’ve missed a few rides in a row now.  I managed to remember it in time, but at the pace we were riding tonight (translation: terrifying) it didn’t matter much.  Since I’ve missed that turn multiple times, I don’t exactly know the line yet.  I blew off a small drop and kind of nose bonked a hole with a gnarly sharp rock.  Karl saw me freak out a bit, and pulled out to the right.  Right into this…

Game over, man.  Well, he had a nice walk down Arawana Rd.

We, on the other hand, had a lovely ride under the setting sun.

After riding Rainbow North, Sidewinder, Tripod, Marmot, Rusty Muffler, Eagle, Raven, Mule Deer, Ponderosa, and Black Bear, we went for a little rip on Southern Dancer.

Yes, that’s all in one descent.  As Kurt would say… "This place sucks…"

I leave you with a couple more typical sunset snaps of the boys.

Rainbow is Open!

Thursday night shop ride time again with Freedom Bike Shop.  As is the tradition at this time of year, we drove up as far as we could until we hit snow to see if we could get in at the reservoir.

Close enough…

There were a few trees to move out of the way, but overall not too bad.  This is our version of a flag raising.

It’s still a bit early for full light all the way down but there’s enough to see by, even with with taking a bunch of extra time to push up through the snow and clearing deadfall.

We managed to just make sunset at Dead Horse.  Well, just about…
