Newlywed or….? – Day 1

I think Louise may have thought she was going to end up nearly dead a couple of times the first day.   her and Mark just got married last week, and are in Canada on a honeymoon.

Actually, since they were riding in Whistler on XC bikes last week, the Okanagan must have seemed like a very friendly Spain.

You’ll note the lack of a derailleur on Mark’s bike.  I’ve ridden a lot of singlespeed, and let me tell you, that’s one HARD way to go out here.

Power to them both, they stpomped Smith Creek easily.  So we went for a dessert lap over in Crawford.  I think they liked the teddy bears.

Yeah, that rain is over and done with.  Summer is finally here.  Not too warm yet,

… but I sense a big heating up in the near future.  So long as we don’t have a repeat of 2003.  It may make some cool pics, but I’m not into a huge fire right now.

OK, they’re fit.  And they rode Rocky Screech.  I think we’re going to try a full loop out in Naramata tomorrow.

MTBco Toonie Ride #2

It’s a new tradition we’re starting up around here.  Toonie Rides.  Pink socks  are optional.

Mike has got the ball rolling with this event, although he did forget the table.  You can tell he thrives on organizing this stuff.  If you’ve got some time every other Weds., maybe think about lending him a hand.  Drop me a line if you’re interested.

OK, so here’s the start line.  16 riders showed up for week 2, up from only 8 at the inaugural ride.

And we’re racing!

You can tell that it’s a pretty serious thing.  Evan tried to wheelie up the whole climb.

The lone woman of the event on the climb.

Sovereign Cycles cooked us up some tasty burgers for the post ride.

Tonight’s fastest man was Aart van Kooy from Peachland.

Also thanks to Tree for supplying first prize.

Nose wheelie on the finish for extra style points.

And a rainbow for the overall leader.

Here’s the results for the first two events:

May Long – Day 3

The Vancouver guys all went home and look what happens…the sun comes out!

Just went for a little rip on Smith Creek with Jonny, Brant, and Jasmine today. I haven’t seen the upgrades this year, so it was cool to check out what’s been done.  Pretty rad set of teeters here.

Just a pleasant day for a climb.  That new Altitude I got sure goes uphill well.

Lots of other folks out today taking advantage of the nice weather.

Before you freak out, she has a helmet, but it’s a full face and without a pack she got Jonny to carry it for her.  The climb is pretty relentless, so it’s fine to take it off on this one.

All that rain sure greened the place up.

Brant borrowed a bike that was a bit much for the full climb.  That’s OK, buddy.  None of us are getting any younger.

Jonny sold his bike last night at midnight, and bought this one at 10 am today.  Nice timing.

And Jasmine survived her first Smith Creek climb.

After the full pull climb, it’s a fast descent.  On the way out, I saw this guy on the road.  Sorta blew it getting the camera out (wrong setting altogether) but I managed to get a pic and a half of this young coyote.

Now to get the DH bike built.  Hopefully the parts will show up finally…a month late, but finally.
