The Wright Passage

Lookout!  It’s a Mooooooooooooose!

There was a calf there too, but I missed it.  On deck today was the Wright Passage, which is Rock Oven starting from the top of Ellis Canyon.  A nice, cool day with high overcast, and some rednecks with semi-automatic assault rifles to start.  We didn’t hang around those guys (they seemed amiable, but very drunk), and proceeded to smash off the Derenzy DH.

Until Vance managed to crash on the climb.

Good one, buddy.  You’re supposed to do that on the descent.  Ah well, Megan and Kurt (and Kro, but he’s not in this shot) managed to stay upright ’till the end.

I think she’s having fun.  She’d better be, as she solidly trounced the boys on the climb.

A couple more classic shots from Rock Oven.  I didn’t bother with the camera a lot today.  Too cloudy, and we were having way too much fun to stop for pics.

Day 2 Kobau With Swiss Kids

Yeah, he’s another old Cove guy, but he’s younger than me, hence…kids.

I thought I’d style the kids out with a banger on Kobau today.  The snow is melting much faster this year, so we could get in much earlier than normal.

How exciting!

Too bad about the hundreds of trees down.  Looks like there’s been a serious wind event at 5000′ this spring.  We cleared the first mile of trail, but I ran outta gas.  I guess I get to do another lap of Cawston Creek with the saw in a week or so.

Ah well, the lower half was spectacular.  There were millions of lupins that were almost handlebar high in the middle meadows.

Springtime in the desert, and it’s so lush.

The dirt was amazing today, too.  The perfect amount of moisture made for hero turns.

Dani was having fun.  I hope she didn’t mind all the deadfall too much.  She looks like she’s into here…

A second run seemed like a stupid idea, so we wandered down to Osoyoos to visit Nummers and another old Cove’r, Goody.

A little cruise across the lake to the true desert and we had a nice afternoon bs-ing and hanging out in the water.

Nature walk!

Today’s wildlife, some wild horses.

Summer really is here.  Soak it in…

Another Old Cove’r

They’re comin’ outta the woodwork, I tells ya.  Another old co-worker from the dark days of Cove Bikes showed up today in the form of one Paul Jolley.  Paul disappeared to the Eurozone around 14 years ago, and just showed up with a Swiss miss and some kind of German joinery ticket.

I don’t know what that means, but as Barb tells me, this baby snake we saw is a Northwestern Garter Snake.

Mean little bugger; he took a few strikes at me.

Meanwhile, Dani (the aforementioned Swiss Miss), was sending various drops in the neighborhood in fine style.

Of course, the male of the pair felt that he must go bigger, and so he did.

As today is the unofficial first day of summer (yeah, it’s finally hot and dry), we celebrated with some new vintages.

Thanks for the vineyard tour, Addy!

OK, one is never enough, so we shredded another one out.

Happy first day of summer everyone. Time to get out there!

Oh, almost forgot.  Today’s wildlife tally was one NW Garter snake, a whitetail deer, a black bear, and three mountain goats.  Not too bad…
